Community

From field trips, to playing bingo with seniors in elder care, to bringing in outside educators for enrichment programs, we actively incorporate the outside community into our activities as a class. Below is a list of some of the local groups with whom we engage.

Habiba's Village

Habiba Addo is a local arts educator and storyteller who is originally from Ghana. She visits our classroom for interactive African storytelling, with music, movement, and singing.

Talk About Trees

Talk About Trees is a science-based program that "encourages awareness and appreciation of the value of trues and forests in our daily lives." An educator from the organization visits our classroom for presentations, neighborhood walks, and hands-on activities about trees and conservation.

Red Yarn

Red Yarn Productions is a folk music and puppetry company that creates musical puppet shows and education performances for children at a variety of venues throughout Portland. Red Yarn has a residency at Stumptown Kids and visits bi-monthly to perform.

Yoga Playgrounds

Yoga Playgrounds is a school-based yoga program for kids. The company's mission is "to empower kids to use yoga to inspire positive change in themselves and those around them by offering high quality, fun, and engaging yoga classes that have been designed exclusively for kids." Twice a month, Leslie from Yoga Playgrounds comes to Stumptown Kids to lead students through yoga poses using engaging story telling and easy to follow instruction.

The Courtyard at Mt. Tabor

The Courtyard at Mt. Tabor is a senior living community. We visit the Courtyard bi-monthly to participate in arts and crafts and other activities with residents. Our trips are an important inter-generational experience that benefits both the students and residents.
